Well after a VERY long wait and many bug fixes later, Navn has finally emerged out of the developer room with another release.
This release adds:

Modularity and a core command api

Restores its self after a segmentation fault in one of it’s modules

The socket engine is much cleaner and faster

There is now a SendQ limiter which is configurable

Many of the older files with code cruft has been removed

Logging now supports custom colors

Much more..

As an added note, we have moved to github to make code contribution easier (plus github was faster).
You can find the 2.0.1 release here:

(git HEAD: 379ec37d9167f2dc70af8ecc55a4bc815a6c2bec)

zip
tarball

As a side note, Navn’s got a sister! Recently I have made friends with the Sigyn developers, A bot written in C using libmowgli, and helped develop some of the core code. The Sigyn developers are also helping steer the future of Navn.

I still have quite a bit of future backlog for Navn, Adding accounts, Database backends, Windows support, Better interface, more modules, Multi-socket engine, Support for various scripting engines, and much, much more.

Some plugins may be buggy and we added a few and removed others. We added factions in the hopes that we will have a spawn and then have cities that will protect themselves instead of admins having to interferer with everything.
I hope your minecraft experience is a wonderful one, please play nice Some of the plugin changes

Bigbrother was swapped out with CoreProtet.

ChopTree was swapped out with TreeAssist.

MCMMO was added as a new plugin

Factions was added as a new plugin

Those are just a few others that are minor and don’t really affect user game play .

I know that we haven’t updated our blog here in awhile and you may not be informed on what is exactly going on or what is happening so far since the merge. So I am here to update you on all of that.

First off we are designing a whole new web front that will be released somewhat soon. We will not being wordpress anymore. As you may have seen when there was SparqDev, we had our own main site that we built. Flux-Net had always had wordpress. We dropped our site and started from scratch and develop a new web site that would fit both groups. The web site will allow you to easily navigate around and will have a brand new blog that’ll be easier to share our blog posts to social networking site and to comment on. You’ll also be able to use a Syndycate account to post comments, get downloads (you will not need an account to download anything as of now, but that may change with some things in the future), etc. Which will bring us to our next topic, Syndycate.

If you have visited Syndycate in awhile you’ll notice that it looks pretty messed up. This is cause because we haven’t updated the links in our files to the new ones. We are still working on this and it’s really not that big of a task and call us lazy, we know. Syndycate will have a weird placing in all of this, because we will have accounts made for Syndycate and will allow comments on our blog even though Syndycate isn’t in a fully usable state, yet. After we complete the main site we plan to move to Syndycate to get that all up and running. Hopefully we’ll fix the links before that.

Now for our third update, Justin (Justasic) is working still working on ANT. It is going on good progress and we hope to get a domain for ANT and a web front maybe sometime this summer. We have a somewhat basic idea on the web front of what we want, but nothing anywhere near final yet. Navn is also getting a few updates here and there as we go along and will come to a release soon.

This should update you a bit on what we are doing behind the scenes here at Azuru.

Well due to the stress I am under (Justasic) with the recent group merge, the stress of development between Navn and ANT, network renaming, school, parents, grades, people, etc. I have become more and more stressed and upset over small things. Last week I recently banned about 7-8 people due to griefing because I made a mistake of allowing people to ask me to teleport them around.
Today, someone joined our server (a normal user) and saw that it was changed due to the new network rename a merge, then called the change “pointless” when it is really a big and development for the network. I expect that with the merge we will get a new site and a new logo and make things quite a bit more seamless than before.

Due to the nature of Minecraft and because its in Java, it is one of the only services that requires a huge chunk of our time to manage. Between users griefing/stealing, people wanting to create huge things, factions, updates and other stuff, the server is takes up about a day just to manage. Currently I have too much stress to be able to competently run the server without driving everyone out of it, so because of this, the server has been shutdown until some of the stress and big changes come around, we will use this time to also regenerate the minecraft map (but still keeping the old one) and update for 1.2.3 when the server goes back online again.

When the server comes back online, due to issues in the past, NO ONE but the ADMINS gets any kind of elevated privileges. This includes creative mode, infinite blocks, flying, etc. (please see the wiki page for our minecraft server) Admins will be the only ones who have the ability to fly and have special privileges. There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about it. This is purely because in the last map and versions, anyone who has these special abilities except the admins end up abusing them or disrespecting the admins of a FREE SERVICE.

People marked “Mod” or “Moderator” have the ability to possibly bypass certain doors, use BigBrother, remove other peoples blocks they deem as bad, and kick/ban players. If you have any issues with admin behavior, please connect to IRC and join #Computers and ask for a Minecraft Admin to review the behavior of the moderator.
(You can expect the server to be back online in a few weeks)

Well today is marking the end of Flux-Net, but not the complete end. Flux-Net has lived since June 24, 2008, back when it was just a simple little desktop running an IRC daemon and an apache service; Today it has almost 20 services but still only managed by 2 core admins. The problem was that managing the backend services and making something presentable to the public became increasingly difficult after the recent addition of our Minecraft server (which seems to require almost 98% of our time) and our under development Commit Notification service (ANT).

Recently I (Justasic) met a group who called them selfs “SparqDev”, short for Sparq Developments. After reviewing their coding capabilities on the web front, they way out did DeathBlade and I by miles but their only real issue was that they really only did web development and had no real purpose behind the group. This merge I hope will bring a new web front and help ease the strain that Deathblade and I are currently under trying to manage all of our services and then keep the website(s) updated for those services.

In relation with the merge, it was my decision that in order to balance power between the two groups and not feel that one “got the short end of the stick” in the deal (plus I was getting tired of our hyphenated name) we decided to rename the network from SparqDev and Flux-Net to our new name, Azuru. Since we’re renaming the network, we have a lot of work that needs to be done, Tyler and Cameron from SparqDev will be working on most of the front end site(s), making them look a lot more presentable and making their interface better with backend services that DeathBlade and I have worked on.

Foundership? How are we going about it? Well for now we need to educate Tyler and Cameron on “The Rule” and how it works (since it’s not easy at the moment to explain “The Rule”), but the new founding four of Azuru are now Justasic, DeathBlade, Tyler, and Cameron (in no order at all) and once they learn “The Rule” which had been made before Flux-Net was spawned which basically says be a fare and nice admin, don’t abuse your power, or you’ll have it revoked. Once they learn this rule, they will be equally as powerful as DeathBlade and I.

Legacy support:
We will be forwarding all domain names to azuru.net (flux-net.net and sparqdev.net) to support all our applications UNTIL THE DOMAIN NAMES EXPIRE! (about a year)
Names will be changed eventually, stuff will be updated.. blah, blah, blah…

Well I am reinstating myself as Lead Developer of Flux-Net for a few reasons:

Lordofsraam isn’t even in contact with the network and therefore has NOT been working on any of the projects.

School isn’t as bad as I was expecting when the new semester came around, I seem to have good teachers who only give homework weekly or homework that I can do in 5 minutes.

Projects were stagnate and I HATE stagnate projects anywhere.

I have Coder’s Withdraw

So, now that I am reinstated, here is a few of the changes I will be doing or have already done.

I have added my/our own git repository so I can make more freehanded commits and such.

Taking over the NeoStats project, this project was an excellent project that died back in 2008. Currently I am working on getting the core to work with inspircd 2.0′s TS6 protocol so NeoStats can link with inspircd.

CIA.vc project code was added into my repository on git (link above) which should have my fixes and such for Flux-Net’s CIA server, I have both original with fixes and Flux-Net (what’s displayed on my server) modification with fixes.

MineServer2, This project seems to have died, which is sad because I was looking forward to a C++ minecraft server; So far I have added just the source and someone else’s source which has terrain generation.

A few modules for Anope and stuff, most everything from my personal SVN server (which I will discontinue use from now on, I hate SVN)

So while I have been busy with homework and school work and friends (and my no-life), I have gotten a lot more done than Lordofsraam. As for now, I plan on hopefully getting ANT working without a web front and just announcing my commits in #Computers; I am going to stop maintaining my CIA server’s source code as it will just be a constant bug fix rather than adding new features and making it better than CIA.vc. NeoStats protocol module should be done as soon as inspircd brings their website back online so I can have access to their protocol documentation. As for development speed, I am not sure I can maintain the almost daily committing spree I used to do, A lot of the problems I have with working on some of my projects is that I am the only one working on them; I also cannot fail the 11th grade hah so I have to devote time to my school work, which means some days may not even see me look into IRC.
IF ANYONE WANTS TO DO SOMETHING SUPER SIMPLE, KNOWS DOXYGEN AND CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT C++ CODE CLASSES ARE DOING, PLEASE MESSAGE ME!
Because I need documentation on ANT’s class files and code, I don’t have time to work on documenting AND development and I need someone who can keep up with me. Most of the code will be self explanatory, meaning almost anyone can understand it if they take the time to interpret the code; I will warn you, it is a VERY tedious process of documenting.

In related news, I could really use some C/C++ developers, if you know POSIX and you know Linux C++ and you are willing to code for us, please stop by! You are an incredibly valuable person!

Today, I got a notice from my parents that when I turn 18, I have 3 options:

I can move out when I am 18 and not graduate High School

I can get my shit together and graduate, or get a G.E.D.

I can pay rent and also not graduate high school but MUST keep a job

Now since I got these 3 options, I have decided to take the 2nd one and actually make an attempt at graduating high school. Currently I am devoting 98% of my time to Flux-Net and Developing for the projects in Flux-Net. This makes doing school work almost impossible as I have to actually code stuff and move things along.

I do not know exactly how long I will be stepping down as developer, and I may even step down as Founding Leader of Flux-Net because I simply don’t have the time to work and make new flux-net developments when I am at a turning point in my life. This does NOT mean that I am leaving Flux-Net permanently or taking down my servers, I will still be able to host my end of Flux-Net and make small changes when needed but I cannot continue development on A.N.T., Navn, CIA.Flux-Net.net, or any other area’s I am in charge of.

If I do decide that I cannot hold my position as Founding Leader, or I have not reported into the chatroom for more than a few weeks, DeathBlade (Jk Yang), will fill that position until my return, he will also manage bans, emails, network related issues, when I am not here to manage them. Lordofsraam has been put in charge of C++ development and I am hoping he can make some more headway in the projects and keep them above being dead (since I am the only developer for those projects). Most everything else has either been automated or can be handled by DeathBlade.

Anyway, this is Justin Crawford (Justasic/NightShadow) signing off as Lead Flux-Net developer. Off to do school work now.. ugh!

(trolololololol)

Well this blog has been rather inactive, mostly because life has gotten in the way of us admins.
Quite a few changes have been made, for example I (Justsic) recently got pound reverse proxy working, so we now have many custom URL’s and what not. Some of the custom URL’S that we have added over the past month or so are bugs.flux-net.net , forum.flux-net.net , chat.flux-net.net and CIA.flux-net.net . ( At this current time CIA.Flux-Net.net and Forum.Flux-Net.net are not fully working but are being worked on as active projects.)

As for the god aweful CIA server we had running, the code is too old for me to work with and too worthless in my mind, I am working as fast as I can in C++ to recreate a similar service that maybe isn’t as stupid (Called ANT), but development is slow, and i lack motivation most of the time, seeing as I am currently the only developer working on it.

What about Navn?
Well I still work on that project too but i am spending most of my time on ANT to really work on Navn’s core.

I have many more projects planned (see my tumblr post) that will be completed in time, but being the only active Flux-Net developer, this will take more time than I would like, also since school is getting more and more in the way as I grow up, its not going to be as easy to maintain these projects and what not.

In other news, we lost a IRC server and admin, subcon.flux-net.net split a days before christmas, his reason was that I had been abusing oper rights and past events came up in the conversation as well. You cannot access his server from subcon.flux-net.net and we will ban you for requesting the server address.

As for the remaining administraors and server owners on flux-net, we have been working to keep the network safe, recently we have been getting spam attacks and threats of DDoS attacks, while I am not very worried about the attacks, we may deny your connection unintentionally to prevent mass connection attacks and/or spam. If you see anything related to attacking the network, inside Flux-Net or outside, please notify NightShadow or DeathBlade on IRC.

In responce to these mass spam attacks, I plan on adding the IRC F-Line into InspIRCd when I get ANT working, this new F-Line, short for Firewall Line, is similar to the IRC Z-Line, or ip address ban. The F-Line is different in that the IRCd no longer handles the actual rejection of the connection, and instead, the network’s firewall rejects the connection. This ban will extend beyond just the IRCd, as most other Flux-Net services are under a firewall. If you get F-Lined, you will not be able to use any of the Flux-Net Services, whether they be a web service, IRC service, email service, or any other server. This will reduce on spam attacks and make rejecting DDoS attacks easier and rejecting user connections who have intent to do malicious attacks on the network.

I would like to thank SparqDev for working on our website and helping in areas that they can, even though they are their own group I appreciate what they do, small or big.

This post may be edited for more news that I have forgotten, also forgive my spelling/grammar errors.

Well its once again another year for Flux-net, the network seems to be bigger than ever with more and more cool projects being added in. Latest of those new cool projects is an added backend feature on Justasic’s side, which now allows for virtual hosts, so in that we have added the following hosts to their websites:

Justasic.Flux-net.net – Justasic’s personal website

Minecraft.Flux-net.net and MC.Flux-Net.net – Minecraft Map

Pulsar.Flux-Net.net – Primary web front end for the Pulsar server.

Galaxy.Flux-Net.net now redirects to Pulsar.Flux-Net.net

fluxnet.hopto.org now redirects to Pulsar.Flux-Net.net

In other news, the Minecraft server has gone public and has had a rapid expansion with little griefing, it seems to have a great community and the Operators have done a good job keeping it that way, Please Donate to help support the server, it costs more to run the server than it does for IRC.

Our newest Operator ShyGuy has joined us on IRC to help moderate with spam and what not, after some recent bot attacks and ban evading users. Welcome ShyGuy.

I am excited to see where Flux-Net is going this next year, seeing that Flux-Net has had such a rapid expansion compared to 2009. This year should add many more features, such as the C++ Version of the service we know as CIA.vc, E-Mail for users, LDAP to allow for users to use 1 account anywhere, and much more.
I hope everyone has an awesome Christmas and gets what they wanted

- Justin Crawford
